Platinum cured silicone is the grade for pharmaceutical, biotech and food contact work, where it is chosen for a cleaner cure with no peroxide by-products and lower extractables; peroxide cured tube is the general purpose grade for the same sizes at lower cost. Precision and power transmission shaft couplings stocked and supplied in Chennai by Raj Trading Corporation, in seven ranges from a 14 mm encoder coupling to a 200 mm jaw coupling rated at 4500 Nm. A coupling carries torque across the misalignment between two shafts, so the first choice is whether it has to absorb that misalignment or hold the shafts rigidly in line. For encoders, tachogenerators and stepper motors there are one piece beam couplings with a helical slit (types AF and AS, 14 to 50 mm outer diameter), polyurethane element encoder couplings (type EC) and plastic disc couplings (type DC) that run to 12000 rpm. For servo motors, ball screws and CNC axes, where backlash is not acceptable at higher torque, there are precision jaw couplings on a polyurethane spider (type GS, size 9 to 55, 1.8 to 685 Nm) and stainless steel lamina disc couplings in single and double pack (types SL and DL, size 5 to 42). V-ring seals in VA and VS profiles, stocked and supplied in Chennai by Raj Trading Corporation. A V-ring is an all rubber axial seal: it stretches onto the shaft, turns with it, and its flexible lip runs against a counterface such as a bearing housing, a washer or a plate. That makes it the seal for keeping dirt, dust, splash water and coolant out of a bearing rather than for holding pressure in, and it tolerates shaft runout and misalignment that a lip seal in a fixed housing will not. It is commonly fitted in front of an oil seal or a bearing as the outboard barrier. The VA profile runs from VA 003 to VA 200, covering shaft seats from 2.5 mm to 180 mm. The VS profile, a heavier section, runs from VS 005 to VS 199, covering 4 mm to 180 mm. Open spring vibration isolators, stocked and supplied in Chennai by Raj Trading Corporation, in four series covering 10 kg to 2300 kg per mount. A spring mount is specified on deflection rather than on load alone: these are made in nominal 20 mm, 25 mm and 50 mm deflection at rated load, which is where they isolate low frequency vibration that a bonded rubber mount is too stiff to touch. Springs are colour coded by rated load, so a mount can be identified on site long after its label has gone, and each carries 50 per cent overload capacity.
